The missions of the gynecologist: what does he do?

Other tasks, such as screening to prevent cancers of the uterus and ovaries and even breast cancers, may be assigned to him. He is therefore one of the main leaders in women’s health, supporting them every day. The gynecologist fulfills what can be considered his most important mission during pregnancies, where his role is obviously vital. First, he must keep a close eye on the embryo as well as the fetus, and then he will be able to determine the child’s sex. Constant examinations ensure that the child does not develop malformations and that the woman is in good health are his responsibility. Obstetricians working in hospitals or clinics may be required to supervise deliveries with the help of a midwife. If a problem arises, immediate intervention will be necessary to perform a cesarean section or a cesarean delivery. In such cases, it is essential to remember that she is the only one authorized to perform such interventions, and her role is all the more important.

What studies?
Unfortunately, the profession is only accessible after long studies, and only those who have completed at least 6 years of studies (which does not offer any specialization) can claim to practice as an obstetrician-gynecologist. The studies are conducted according to a specific model. The first year is obviously the famous PACES year, which is the twelve common months for all health studies. At the end, you will have to participate in a competition to enter the second year. During this period, a one-month internship at the hospital is performed. In addition to spending one afternoon per week throughout the year to acclimate to the office. We then follow a 3-year cycle of both theoretical and practical courses in pathology and therapy. Internships in hospitals and with a general practitioner are followed by validating your theoretical training that allows you to continue to the sixth year. This last year is very important because you will have to choose the two specialties which are gynecologist physician and obstetrician-gynecologist as well as a location to conduct your internship. However, the specialty is only acquired after additional studies. Indeed, it will take four or five years. In total, there are about ten years of studies to reach a position.
Salary
The profession can be practiced as a private practitioner or as an employee in a clinic or hospital. Salary disparities are very marked and range from about 3000 euros gross per month for a beginner to over 12000 euros for the highest paid. A study has shown that the average salary of a gynecologist is about 7500 euros gross per month.
Careers and opportunities
Practicing as a private practitioner offers almost no opportunities, but there are certain occasions when working in hospitals. If applicable, they will be eligible for positions in the administration and management of these institutions.
